Statistics is the cross-disciplinary maths course shared by economics, psychology, sociology, biology and sports science L1. The syllabus splits into descriptive statistics (mean, median, variance, standard deviation, correlation, simple linear regression) and inferential statistics (probability laws, sampling distribution, central limit theorem, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing). The Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, normal and exponential distributions are non-negotiable. The central limit theorem underpins most real-world tests, justifying the use of the normal distribution as soon as the sample exceeds about 30 observations.
