- Avec un adjectif court, ajoute -er avant than : Tom is taller than Ben.
- Avec un adjectif long, place more devant l’adjectif : It is more interesting than that book.
Infériorité
- Place less devant l’adjectif, puis ajoute than : This bag is less expensive than that one.
Comparatif d’égalité
Aussi… que
- La structure as + adjectif + as exprime l’égalité : She is as tall as her sister.
- À la forme négative, not as…as signifie « moins… que » : He is not as fast as Leo.
- Garde as avant et après l’adjectif, jamais than.
Superlatif
Désigner le degré maximal
Adjectif court
- Ajoute the et -est : This is the smallest room.
Adjectif long
- Place the most devant l’adjectif : She is the most beautiful dancer.
- Après un superlatif, précise le groupe avec in ou of.
Irrégularités et orthographe
Formes irrégulières
| Adjectif | Comparatif | Superlatif |
|---|---|---|
| good | better | best |
| bad | worse | worst |
| far | farther | farthest |
| little | less | least |
- Exemple : This tower is much taller than that building.
- Exemple : The second test was far more difficult than the first.
Repère-mémoire
Retenir : than compare, as…as égalise et the annonce le superlatif.
